Why do we need diverse housing Opportunities?
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) is the regional planning agency serving the people who live and work in the 101 cities and towns of Metropolitan Boston.
This past year a study was released b the city done by the Kity and Michael Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy of Northeastern University.
- The MAPC Inner Core Communities, (Arlington, Belmont, Newton, Waltham, Watertown, Brookline etc) had a housing meeting in March 2015. This link is the powerpoint demonstrating the housing needs in our region.
- The MAPC has also done a presentation on the need for middle income housing
- Recently NPR did a story on Marketplace about Millenials and the Housing Market. It describes that most millenials need rental housing because of the double whammy of the high cost of housing and their school debt. You can listen to this podcast here

How can I get an absentee ballot if I'll be away during either election?
The last day to register is twenty days prior to the election. The Election Commission is open on the last evening to register until 8:00 pm. For further information, call the Election Commission Office at (617) 796-1350.date. Absentee ballot requests can be made at the Election Commission Office or by sending a letter of request with an original signature (no faxes or e-mails). Permanently disabled citizens can be put on a permanent list if a doctor’s note in forwarded to the Election Office. They will be sent an application every year thereafter. Millennials are driving less and moving to cities
This recent report on Marketplace (NPR) describes how our love affair with cars may be slowing down. In particular I found it interesting that Millennials - people born after 1980 are more inclined toward city living where they are less dependent on cars. This fact is corroborated in a recent MAPC report.
